Who Is ASA?

The American Speed Association (ASA) is under the ownership of Dennis Huth, a longtime and well-respected pillar in the motorsports community.  Best known for his development and direction of the Craftsman Truck Series, part of his 16-year tenure with NASCAR was spent creating the backbone of the weekly racing program, knowledge that he continues to use today with ASA Racing.  Since its beginning in 1996, the ASA Speed Truck Challenge has been the "premier" series under the ASA banner.

Over the years, the American Speed Association has provided many of the finest drivers in stock car racing the avenue needed to learn and hone their skills.  Among the ASA graduates are such noted names as Rusty Wallace (1983 ASA Champion), Mark Martin (four-time champion in 1978, ’79, ’80, ’86), Jimmie Johnson (1998 Rookie of the Year), Matt Kenseth, Reed Sorenson, Kyle Busch and Dick Trickle.  Each of these drivers, and hundreds of others, took to the bullrings to learn what it takes to be a professional race car driver and how to handle the rigors of a national touring series including car handling skills, media relations, and of course fan interaction.  Now, through the ASA Member Track, Regional and National Racing programs, this heritage continues but with a modern twist.

Some of the strongest and most positive comments come from those racetrack owners and promoters who have seen firsthand what an affiliation with the American Speed Association can do for their facility.  Working together as partners is part of the ASA Member Track plan as racetracks and promoters come together for the betterment of short track racing.  Today, Huth and ASA have 33+ sanctioned racetracks, 12 racing series, over 700 sanctioned annual events representing between 7,000 and 10,000 Saturday night drivers.

The ASA insurance program, always noted for its excellence, is further enhanced by one of the strongest motorsports insurance programs nationwide through WSIB Motorsports Insurance.  WSIB, with their proven track record of the longest motorsport partnership (WSIB/CHUBB); provides competitive pricing and the highest level of service that you will find in the industry.  ASA Member Track operators are able to purchase general and excess liability, automobile, an expanded ASA-exclusive $500,000 participant (on track and to/from the track) accident medical, property, Inland Marine, driver’s disability and much more through this exciting and comprehensive program.

Reducing the cost of racing is something that so many series and sanctions talk about, yet seem to make little progress in tackling.  The American Speed Association has made several advances; the most notable is the insurance package available to its members.  And as a short track operator, only you know the challenges that face you.  Some may be industry-wide, but by and large, most are specific to your facility alone.  We don’t take a “cookie-cutter” approach that treats all tracks the same way and with the same solutions.

If you are looking to be part of something bigger or an alternative sanctioning body, then you should consider the best alternative – American Speed Association (ASA).  For more information about ASA, visit www.asa-racing.com or contact ASA president, Dennis Huth at 386-258-2221.
