ASA STC President, Jay Rutherford Upland, CA - April 26, 2007 - President of the ASA Speed Truck Challenge (ASA STC), Jay Rutherford announced today that his series will be strengthening its already strong commitment to driver and overall safety by bringing on Wendi Day as Safety Director. "Wendi has a history of racing and knows the driver safety industry well. Wendi's main priority will be to verify all driver equipment and clothing items at every race, keeping every driver up-to-date on the latest safety issues and supplying information necessary to update the ASA STC website," said Rutherford. "We have a superior safety record over the past eleven years however we know that it only takes one oversight to create a regrettable tragedy," he continued. "I am confident in Wendi's abilities to make sure that the series meets all the necessary guidelines." Rutherford explaining safety rule The ASA Speed Truck Challenge has regular driver meetings where safety both on and off the track are emphasized. One upcoming example of a major change in driving safety systems will be the elimination of halon fire suppression in all vehicles. "We can't just assume that our drivers are up on all the latest safety changes by the governing bodies,' explained Day. "It costs the drivers more money; however the reason these products are being updated is to give every driver a better chance of coming out of a crash without injury. That is everything to us." Wendi Day - Safety Director Day's responsibilities began at the 1st race of the ASA STC season in Lucas I-10 Speedway on March 3, 2007. Safety rule updates will be posted on the series website at www.speedtruck.com. "I am so pleased that Wendi has come on board in this capacity to help us in such a huge way, " said Rutherford. Our drivers have already begun realizing that this very important to their overall safety. We want any parent that wants their son or daughter to come to the ASA Speed Truck Challenge series to know that we take safety very seriously and everything possible is being done to assure it in every race," he concluded. ASA STC will also be partnering with Randy LaJoie, former two-time Busch Series winner and also has three victories at the prestigious Busch 300 at Daytona International Speedway, in his recently announced Safer Racer Tour, in which LaJoie will be traveling the circle tracks discussing driver safety with drivers all over the U.S. His overall goal is to bring a higher level of safety innovations to all levels of racing.
